This coffee was a bit of a revelation for me… I had never before tasted liquorice in coffee and I am a huge fan! For me it’s even more tasty than the Machacamarca…
Though I’d be curious what someone who doesn’t like liquorice thinks of this as I had a delicious liquorice aftertaste in my mouth for hours after drinking
Though the first time I tried to brew it in the aeropress, using a medium-fine grind and fairly short extraction (perhaps 40s) inverted I ended up with overbearing acidity which was overpowering the liquorice…
Then tried a coarser grind with about 90s extraction (based on a comment you made in one of the recent inmymugs) and suddenly the acidity practically disappeared and the liquorice taste became very in-your-face.
Something that I would find really handy would be a guide to how the different flavours in coffee respond to the brewing parameters… Something like “too much acidity, use a coarser grind/longer extraction” as currently I have no good way of improving what I get out of the coffee.
Not a fan of liquorice and this coffee isn’t one for me but I’m going to give the remainder of the bag another 7-10 days to rest and come back to it.

Don’t normally like licorice but this is lovely. Tasted the blackcurrant too! Not normally good at picking up the flavours. Very very drinkable enjoyable coffee.
Brewed this in a chemex @ 15g a mug for the first time today and it’s crazy coffee! It goes from a deep, dark, nearly bark-like taste in the first few sips to a smooth taste with acid over-tones reminding me of green tomatoes as the coffee gets colder.
Huge sweet dark chocolate after-taste. Made my day.

Yeah, have to agree- liquorice. Still prefer the blackcurrant flavours, I’m afraid. Still makes a nice Cona, though. Another “back-room” blog. Good. On a technical note, your video seems to have interlacing issues. Not sure if it’s how you’re filming it or how you’re posting it. Very odd to watch.
I vastly preferred this to the Gethumbwini of a few weeks ago, it really worked well in the French press.
There was definite undertones of the blackcurrant and liquorice sweets which worked really well in this coffee.
The flavours weren’t subdued but they weren’t overbearing either just spot on.
The in my mug subscription is the highlight of Monday’s for me.
I’m in the same boat as Mark, I much prefered the peaberry on this one, though I’m getting on with the AA now its calmed down a bit too.
Deliciously different but with a vein of familiarity too.
